In September 2021, a resident of Taraz, Rafael Kamilevich Iskanderov, transferred valuable exhibits to the museum-reserve fund. He accidentally discovered a treasure consisting of silver coins found during earthworks near the lower Baryskhan settlement. Two silver coin blanks and partially and finely dissected coin pieces were preserved in the pottery.
The treasure was studied by the scientist – numismatist P. N. Petrov. According to the scientist, the coin was a Samanid dirham dating back to the middle of the tenth century. Parts of the dirham belonged to a petty merchant. A merchant may bury him near the house where he lives in the event of an emergency. The weight of the coin pieces is about half a kilogram.Such treasures are further evidence that medieval Taraz occupied one of the leading places on the Great Silk Road, was a "Merchant City" and played a major role in caravan trade, as well as an important center of non-ferrous metallurgy for many centuries. On behalf of the Museum-Reserve Iskanderov Raphael, who donated the treasure, was awarded a "letter of thanks" and presented gifts from the museum's publishing house.
