Lamps and Water Vessels

Lamps

These colourful, exquisitely decorated items, coated with special glazes, are outstanding examples of decorative and applied art. They were typically made with a single spout. One of the unique details that enhances the lamp's decorative appeal is the protruding handle covered in ornamental patterns. This element not only makes the lamp comfortable to hold but also enriches its aesthetic appearance. Particularly prized are specimens adorned with delicate carvings and masterfully executed ornaments — they reflect the harmonious blend of elegance and artistic taste characteristic of Kazakh decorative and applied art. Thanks to these artistic qualities, the lamps are perceived not merely as utilitarian household objects, but as an important part of the spiritual and cultural heritage.

Water Vessels

The ceramics of ancient Taraz are distinguished by their artistic and technical excellence, as evidenced by the high quality of the shards, glazes, and paints, as well as the refined forms and decoration of the items. Clay vessels were produced both by hand-modelling techniques and with the aid of a potter's wheel. The ornamentation of the items is characterised by its elegance and subtle sense of colour. Various technical methods were employed for applying ornamental patterns, including stamping, carving, applique, and incising. The meaningful ornaments created by ancient craftsmen, depicting floral and geometric motifs as well as stylised figures of animals and birds, attest to the high level of cultural and domestic development of the inhabitants of ancient Taraz.
