History preserved in a khum — a silent witness of Ancient Taraz

The khum found in the open-air archaeological complex on the territory of the ancient settlement of Taraz is a unique example of the material heritage of medieval civilization.
This large clay vessel was used at that time for storing grain, liquids, and crops. Handmade and kiln-fired, khums demonstrate the developed trade, economic, domestic, and agricultural culture of Taraz.
According to archaeologists, this khum dates to the 8th–10th centuries. Traces of firing and geometric ornaments have been preserved on its surface. Such vessels allow us to study the daily life and economy of the inhabitants of the ancient city.
Today, the khum is exhibited in the "Kone Taraz" archaeological park on a special platform and attracts visitors' attention. It is a silent but meaningful artifact that has come down to us from the depths of centuries.
