Today our colleague Fariza Zhumagulova conducted the "Did You Know?" column by meeting with city residents. She conducted a survey and supplemented the facts they shared.
As noted in the survey, many years ago the open-air market was popularly known as "Kok Bazaar," but it no longer exists. In its place, the "Ancient Taraz" historical-cultural complex was opened based on excavations conducted in 2011-2017 and now operates as an archaeological park. This site, along with the Karakhan and Aisha-Bibi mausoleums, has become a regular tourist destination in the historically rich Zhambyl region. Additionally, during the Q&A session, residents shared their knowledge about ancient Taraz, the Great Silk Road, historical mausoleums, and the Zhambyl Zhabayev monument.
It should be noted that the "State Historical-Cultural Museum-Reserve 'Monuments of Ancient Taraz'", which oversees 30 historical-cultural monuments in Zhambyl region, launched the "Did You Know?" column this year. The goal is to expand residents' and tourists' knowledge about historical figures and related monuments. You can also share your knowledge on the topic in the comments section.
