Witness of Ancestral History – Ancient Taraz

On November 3 of the current year, the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Monuments of Ancient Taraz”, subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, organized the grand opening of the traveling exhibition “Witness of Ancient History — Ancient Taraz” at the “Sapar” Center of the State Archaeological Museum-Reserve “Otyrar”.

To open the event, the first speech was given by Kuttybay Sagyntay Tatibayuly, Head of the Department of Culture, Language Development, Physical Culture and Sports of Otyrar District, archaeologist-scientist Aldabergenov Nurtaza Orynkhanuly, and Director of the “Otyrar” Museum-Reserve Makhashov Zhangeldi Menlibayuly, who expressed gratitude to the organizers of the exhibition revealing the secrets of the past and wished them success. Then the floor was given to Ospanova Aliya Muratovna, chief custodian of the State Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve “Monuments of Ancient Taraz”, who spoke about the goals and significance of the exhibition.

The main goal of the traveling exhibition is to promote, utilize, preserve, and study the cultural heritage of the country by connecting history and culture, and to present to the people the history of valuable artifacts that have witnessed ancient history.

During the event, songs were performed by artists of the Otyrar District Palace of Culture and teachers of the Otyrar School of Music and Art. The ribbon of the traveling exhibition was cut, and museum-reserve staff presented the historical exposition of the ancient city of Taraz, whose history echoes the heritage of millennia. The local “Turkestan” TV channel interviewed museum-reserve staff about the goals of the traveling exhibition and the importance of preserving valuable artifacts — the foundation of national history and culture.

A traveling exhibition of valuable and unique artifacts found at the ancient Taraz settlement was prepared for the event. It featured Sogdian-style ceramic jugs from the 8th–9th centuries, medieval tableware ceramics: jugs, plates, small pitchers, lids, water vessels; mustakhara (flask), sphero-conical vessels, lamps, beads, silver, nephrite, and bronze belt fittings, and coins from various periods. The exhibition will be displayed for residents and guests of the Otyrar district for one month.
