UNESCO Round Table with Leading Museums and Government Bodies of Kazakhstan
12.12.2025
A round table was held with the organization of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, with the participation of leading museums of Kazakhstan and representatives of state bodies. The meeting was dedicated to discussing strategic recommendations for the development of the museum sector.
Museum-Reserve Director Nurzhan Mergenbaiuly noted during the event the current state and problematic issues of the Aktobe, Kostobe, Kulan, Ornek and Akyrtas architectural-archaeological complexes included in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2014 under the nomination "Silk Road: Chang'an-Tianshan Corridor Route Network" in Zhambyl region, presented a new project and briefly stated the following:
"Akyrtas is a unique historical monument included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, a treasure that has not fully revealed its secrets to researchers over 150 years. Despite scientific debates about the architectural structure and scale of the site, the number of visitors continues to grow annually. Currently, a modern visitor center serving tourists operates on the territory.
Today we propose an innovative project aimed at presenting the heritage at a new level – Akyrtas Digital Pavilion. This interactive media hub, combining education, science and innovation through immersive technologies, AR/VR experiences, 3D modeling and media residencies, provides the opportunity for wide promotion of the Akyrtas heritage in digital format."
