Taraz – The Meeting Place of Great Civilizations!

The main goal of the forum was to revitalize national historical memory by discussing the rich historical and cultural heritage of Taraz, its role in ancient urban civilization, and new directions of modern scientific research, as well as to promote the civilizational significance of Taraz.

Historians, archaeologists, cultural studies scholars, and researchers from all corners of Kazakhstan, as well as from countries such as Turkey, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan, participated in the conference.

"Taraz is a sacred place that has preserved the secrets of millennia and united many cultures. Studying this city means uncovering the deep layers of national history," said Nurzhan Mergenbay, director of the "Monuments of Ancient Taraz" museum-reserve. Candidate of Historical Sciences Zhuman Smailov emphasized: "Studying Taraz means discovering yet unrevealed secrets. In ancient times, this region was an important political and cultural center." Within the conference, scientific reports were presented, discussions were held, and new proposals for preserving and researching the historical heritage of the Taraz region were discussed.
