Day of Democratic Renewal of the Republic of Kazakhstan

On December 12, 1991, by the Decree of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev "On the Rehabilitation of Citizens Held Accountable for Participation in the Events of December 17-18, 1986 in Kazakhstan," individuals who were held criminally, administratively, and disciplinarily responsible for participation in the events of December 17-18, 1986 in Kazakhstan were rehabilitated.

Additionally, according to paragraph 4 of the said Decree, December 17 was declared the Day of Democratic Renewal of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This day is also considered the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the December Events.
