Aktoty Raimkulova gave an exclusive interview about theater, cinema, sports and tourism

Minister of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan Aktoty Raimkulova gave an extensive interview to Atameken Business TV channel about issues concerning domestic theaters, cinema, and new initiatives in sports and tourism.

"My mother sang beautifully. She could not become a professional singer — it was wartime during the Great Patriotic War. My father was a writer. Raimkulov Rakhmetolla played the dombra well. Songs and music always played in our house. Major musicians were guests. My father took me to the wonderful Kazakh composer Sydyk Mukhamedjanov to choose a musical instrument. The moment when a piano was brought home when I was five years old is still vivid in my memory," Aktoty Rakhmetollakizi recalled her childhood.

The Minister said that even while in government service, she is passionate about composing music at night and derives spiritual pleasure from playing an instrument.

When the conversation turned to government affairs, the Minister shared the projects planned by the ministry for 2021.

"We hope to implement the projects and programs that were not carried out last year due to the pandemic and were postponed to this year. Any content, any product in the cultural sphere will be aimed at uplifting the spirit of the Kazakh people and educating future generations. Special attention will also be given to promoting our national culture abroad," she said.

Aktoty Rakhmetollakizi gave a direct answer regarding internal restructuring of the ministry and rumors about privatization of state property.

"Kazakhfilm is our country brand, and the famous film studio will continue its work. We have wonderful filmmakers, each with excellent ideas. Everyone wants to make a good film. We have state financial support for filmmaking — a practice virtually nonexistent in many countries. This is a wonderful opportunity. Under the new Law On Cinema, if anyone provides financial support for producing a good film, they will be exempted from certain taxes. If cinemas show domestic films in prime time, they will also receive certain tax benefits," she noted.

Aktoty Rakhmetollakizi spoke in detail about the work of theaters and cinemas during the pandemic, as well as new projects of the Year of Supporting Children and Youth Reading.
