Funds of the State Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum "Monuments of Ancient Taraz"

The picking of the museum fund began in 2015 during the opening of the “Kone Taraz” archaeological park. Archaeological work carried out from 2011 to 2017 at the settlement of Taraz (1st-19th centuries) allowed to study the centuries-old cultural layers of one of the most ancient cities of  Kazakhstan, which gave rich archaeological material. The archaeological collection of the reserve-museum is represented by a variety of unique artifacts made of metal, stone, bone, glass, but the collection of ceramics is more numerous. Kitchen and dining utensils, water pipes, ornamented tiles and sculptures - all these were skillfully made by ancient potters from clay. Jewelry and belt pads, a collection of medieval coins allow us to judge the development of mining and metalworking in the region, the development of commodity-money relations. These artifacts are proof that skilled craftsmen lived in ancient Taraz, merchants traded in various goods; the mint worked, minting coins on behalf of the Taraz rulers, the architects were pleased with their craft and the scientific thought developed, enriching the culture of the region.
Most of the archaeological collection of the reserve-museum belongs to the heyday of ancient Taraz (10th-12th centuries) on the Great Silk Road. These archaeological finds reveal to us the secrets of the past long gone, determine the level of development of culture, science and crafts of ancient Taraz as a standard of medieval urban culture.

At the beginning of 2020, the funds of the historical and cultural reserve-museum "Monuments of Ancient Taraz" number 4104 storage units, of which 4016 storage units are in the main fund, and 88 storage units are in the scientific auxiliary. The exhibits are divided into two scientific and classification groups: archaeological - 2230 storage units, numismatic 1874 storage units.
